lthough the 1919 Chicago White Sox ballclub worked well together on the playing field, the team was bitterly divided into two distinct factions. One group, led by team captain Eddie Collins was well educated and better paid. This group included teammates Ray Schalk, Shano Collins, Dickie Kerr, Red Faber and Nemo Leibold. The second half of the team was paid far less and was also less educated. Led by first baseman Chick Gandil, this group included the seven other members of the "Black Sox."

Little cooperation or communication existed between the

two sides. Team captain Eddie Collins summarized the chemistry of the 1919 White Sox team this way: "I thought you couldn't win without teamwork, until I joined the White Sox. Yet somehow we won 100 games and the pennant."

Both sides did agree on one thing however, their dislike of team owner Charles Comiskey.

Charles Comiskey was a former ballplayer who purchased the Sioux City franchise in 1894. After a brief stay in St. Paul Minnesota, Comiskey moved the team to Chicago in 1900.
