On August 1st, the Reds took over first place in the National League and would maintain that position for the final two months of the season. The Reds were declared National League Champions on September 16 after Dutch Ruether defeated the Giants 4-3.

For the season, the Reds team batting average was .263, tied for second in the N.L., behind the New York Giants. With a 2.23 ERA, the Reds pitching staff also ranked second behind only the Chicago Cubs.
