both being as a pinch-hitter. In Game 1, with the White Sox down 8-1 in the 8th inning, Fred batted for White Sox pitcher Roy Wilkinson and singled to centerfield.

In Game 2 Fred made his second pinch-hit appearance and batted for Lefty Williams in the 9th inning. With the White Sox down 4-2 and 2 out, Fred grounded out to Reds second baseman Morrie Rath to end the game.

For his part in the fix, Fred earned $5,000 and ultimately... expulsion from professional baseball.
