ctober 9,1919: Game 8 was the final game of the 1919 World Series. 32,930 fans watched as the Cincinnati Reds won their first Championship. The final score was 10-5.

White Sox starting pitcher Lefty Williams got only one batter out in the first inning. Williams gave up 4 runs including a leadoff walk, 3 singles, and a double and was removed after only 14 pitches.

Hod Eller pitched a complete game for the Reds and picked up his second victory in the Series.

Ahead 5-0 in the third inning, Eller gave up a solo homerun to Joe Jackson, which was the only homerun hit in the Series.

By the eighth inning, the lead was 10-1. The White Sox scored 4 runs in their half of the eighth, but would fall five runs short. The game and the Series was over.

After the game, Reds manager Pat Moran proclaimed: "The Reds are Champions and I am the happiest man in the world tonite. I can not praise my players highly enough. They played remarkable ball, fought every minute to win, and there never was a time when they lost confidence."

For winning the World Series, each Reds player received $5,207.11. Each White Sox player received $3,254.36.
