 ctober 2,1919: the pitching matchup for Game 2 featured Lefty Williams (23-11) vs. Slim Sallee (21-7). 29,698 attended the game and saw the Reds beat the White Sox 4-2 to take a 2-0 lead in the Series. The White Sox compiled 10 hits in the game, but could only score 2 runs as Slim Sallee went 9 innings for the victory. Losing pitcher Lefty Williams was uncharacteristically wild, walking 6 in 9 innings. Williams allowed 3 runs in the third inning as he walked 3 and gave up 2 hits. |

After the game Judge Landis described the Cincinnati ballclub as "the most formidable machine I have ever seen." It was also at the conclusion of the game that White Sox manager Kid Gleason commented on his teams performance: "We outhit them nearly 3 to 1, but the breaks of the game went against us. The Sox are far from out of the race. We have the greatest come back ballclub in the world and these two beatings will make my players fight all the harder to even it up-Williams showed today that the Reds' hitting can be stopped.
